The Return

Louie's promise to "serve god forever"  if he had saved his life on the raft, had saved his life again. When he returned, nothing returned the way he wanted it to be. His wife filed for divorce, he had post traumatic stress, he couldn't train for the Olympics because of his ankle, and this lead to his drinking problem. The reason he gave up the problem because he remembered the promise he made, dumped out his liquor and was able to focus again.

  1. His return reminded me of a lot of sports players. They will be on the DL because of a bad injury and after they return, even though they are healthy, it takes so other kind of spark to get their true game back.

  2. Of course these are the obvious causes of his drinking problem, but there was more to it. Louie needed some way to cope with what he was dealing with after what he went through so he turned to alcohol, just like many people do to get away from their issues. With all of the fame he got from surviving such a torturous journey, and with coming to the realization of just how many friends he lost out there, Louie got hooked on alcohol.
